December, 2015

Happy Holidays,

We hope you and your loved ones are doing well and are enjoying your holiday preparations.

As you can see from the picture, we had a wonderful opportunity to get the whole fam-damily together this year! Celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary, we all went on a cruise to Bermuda at the end of June. I think we all agreed that Bermuda was wonderful. The cruise part was a little less successful, mainly because we had some VERY rough seas. Unfortunately, most everyone managed to have varying degrees of motion sickness, which spoiled the trip for some. Dick and I will happily cruise again, and I think Alea, Cristy and Teddy would willingly go again. I'm not so sure about the others. Ah, well, at least they've all had the chance to try it!

Overall, 2015 was a pretty good year. In January we made a 4-day trip back to Fort Walton Beach, where we had wintered for 9 years, to visit with some of our friends there. It was great to see so many of our old pals.

Other travels this year included a bus trip with people from our community to Savannah, a car trip on our own to Williamsburg, the cruise to Bermuda, a reunion of several high school friends on Martha's Vineyard, and, of course, our migratory flights to our northern and southern homes.

Our hobbies continue to be card making/paper-crafting for me, golf and bike-riding for Dick, square dancing for both of us, plus assorted things like water aerobics, swimming, card playing, reading, Sudoku and crossword puzzles. This year Dick started making animals out of plywood to go in our various garden areas. He cuts them to shape then paints them. He’s gotten lots of positive comments from passers-by.

This hobby got started during the summer, because he cut back on his swimming, biking and golf due to groin pain that he thought might be a hernia. Eventually, the hernia was ruled out along with diverticulosis. As I write this we're still trying to determine what’s going on. The pain comes and goes and manifests itself in the groin, hip, back and abdomen at different times, and usually only when he's on his feet for more than 10 minutes at a time. We are addressing the issue, but the medical profession moves very slowly when you go from one specialist to another. We'll keep you posted.

All of the grandkids are well, growing and thriving. Teddy LOVES college life again this year and has taken up ballroom dancing. Kayleigh is a high school junior and continues to ride horses and write in her spare time. Ayden is 12, bright, quirky and deeply involved in "Magic: the Gathering." Alden and Ethan still live out in Washington State, do well in school, and are enjoying learning Karate. Alea, Ayden's younger sister turned 7 on the cruise, loves school, life and everyone!

Michael is the only one of our kids to have any major changes this year. He is no longer working directly for Yogibo although he still sells their product independently. He and Jennifer have set up a company called "Funiture Rentals" — yes, that’s Fun.. not Furn… because they set up Yogibo lounges at events like fairs, bar mitzvahs, etc. and the furniture is fun, so… "Funiture" it is!

I guess that pretty well sums up our lives in a nutshell. We hope this letter finds you all well, happy and looking forward to the holidays. May 2016 be a kinder year worldwide and may it treat you with joy, love and tranquility.
