Last year's Sauvageau family update told you about my hip replacement a week before Christmas. That was so successful, I chose to have my second hip done 3 months later! That one was equally successful, and I walk straighter, taller and without pain. Yay!

Dick hasn't fared quite so well with a crooked and torqued spine that make it hard for him to be on his feet for more than a few minutes at a time without substantial pain. The good news is that he can still swim, ride his bike, golf and putter around the house. He just limits his time standing.

Dick's Potheads..., er Pot People

Dick's current hobby is creating flower pot people, animals and Sesame Street characters like these.

Gee's Papercraft

Gee is still making greeting cards like these.

We manage to keep as busy as we want to be, and, generally, life is still really good.

Oldest grandson Teddy (22) is in his second year of grad school in Stony Brook, NY, and is pictured here with his girlfriend Sarah. His sister Kayleigh (19) is in her sophomore year at UMass, Dartmouth, and this picture was taken right after she voted in her first election! Their father Scott, our oldest son, has had a couple of job changes over the last couple of years, but he is still programming for an insurance company in Hartford. Amy is busy running the horse farm and teaching riding lessons.

Our second son Tim lives in Spokane where he works as a nurse for Hospice — a job he loves. Our former daughter-in-law Cristy now lives in LA and has the kids for the summer and school vacations. The boys live with Tim during the school year. Alden is 13 and plays saxophone in the jazz band at school. Ethan is 11 (and, no, he doesn't really drive!) He has struggled with asthma and sleep apnea for several years and recently had his tonsils removed in hopes that will help the sleep apnea.

Our youngest son Michael is the one who — with his wife Jennifer — runs the chocolate company Noteworthy Chocolate where they laser engrave chocolate stationery and medallions with personalized messages. They've been in business for 2 years now and are keeping their heads above water. They've recently had several very large corporate gifting orders, which certainly help.

Their son Ayden (15) is rapidly approaching his father's height and was recently fitted for a hearing aid. He has been 90% deaf in his left ear since birth, and, until recently, the technology wasn't there to compensate for his loss. Now they can, and he's hearing stereo sound for the first time in his life! His sister Alea (10) loves to sing and act and has been in a couple of plays this past year.

As 2018 winds to a close, please know that we wish you only the best for the coming year. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a very Happy New Year!

Dick & Gee
